Today was a bit of a wacky day. I had to cover the music teacher for two blocks and then the drama teacher for three blocks. I ended up seeing grades 5, 4, 3, 2, and kindergarten. These days can be hard because I only see each class for about an hour before having to move on to the next. It is just a lot of students to go through in one day.
For the music classes, I ended up using the ancient T.V. set which literally uses VHS tapes. The music teacher left me no plans for the day, which is why I jumped to just playing movies for the two classes I had. It was pretty easy because we were just watching movies. The 5th-grade class was the first block of the day. Some of the boys in the class brought in stickers. They ended up basically covering their whole faces with stickers for whatever reason. I then had to remind them they needed to keep their face masks on and they needed to clean up the mess they made after leaving the sticker wrappers all over the floor. Other than that, the music wasn’t too bad.
I actually had so much fun with the three classes I had for drama. We basically just played games the whole time. When I had the kindergarten class for drama, we did a couple of acting games and then did a bunch of GoNoodle videos. In case you don’t know what GoNoodle is, it is a website for kids that has a bunch of different follow-along videos for them. They have videos for singing, dancing, workouts, meditation, and yoga. Basically anything and everything that kids would follow along with. They literally had so much fun doing GoNoodle videos and we even did an activity where each child acted like an animal and the class had to guess what animal they were pretending to be. This got a little out of hand because some kids acted like fake animals, which made some kids upset. For example, one girl pretended to be a unicorn.
After this was revealed, another student said “No, that’s not fair, unicorns aren’t real”.
This made the other student upset and she responded with “I don’t care!”
I also had one of my favorite classes for drama, which is a 4th-grade class. We just played games the whole time, and then the students asked me to play with them. We ended up playing Four Corners because that’s their favorite game. I decided to play along with them. The person that guessed closest to my birthday would be the guard. To my surprise, one boy in the class guessed my birthday exactly. I mean he got the month, day, and year right. Obviously, fair enough, he was our first guard. Before I left this class, a lot of the students ended up giving me Christmas pencils, stickers, and erasers. It was very weird, but also very sweet of them.
Overall, it was a great day and I had a lot of fun with the classes. There were of course some issues throughout the day, but it was just a fun day and I got to see a lot of great classes that I hadn’t seen in awhile. 10/10 recommend.
