Installment 4 By Keyle Pacaja
Being the first generation in the family is hard and a struggle for a lot of people who have a similar or different background as I do. Over the years I realized my ups and downs are the challenges I faced throughout my life, and it leads up to great accomplishments. I'm happy with what I have and the many projects I want to work on here at Lasell University. As I spent some time with some students who are from first-generation groups many of them understand each other and I can feel a bond being created. It’s important to build those types of connections because we always feel like we are doing this alone but having people who understand and know what it means to be here in college is a whole other thing. I want to make a difference and see what I could do to reach out to so many who find themselves lost and confused when it comes to coming to college and organization.
When I first came here to Lasell University we were just getting over COVID but not fully and a lot of restrictions were going on. I felt like I was the only one here and it was such a hard time trying to find some friends or someone who at least understood me. For next year I want to make something possible and reach out to people who can help me with a special project I have in mind. I want to make everyone feel known and at least for the upcoming freshman who are mostly going to be the first generation in their families welcomed and easy for them to process their huge accomplishments of coming to college.
Hopefully in the future when I start my project it can help so many students sharing my story was hard but I’m glad I did because it gives people the opportunity to know they are not alone I’m still trying to figure out “College life”. I sometimes have my problems but there is always a solution. I feel like everyone has their struggle and we are all trying to keep up with our work in college.
