Flash of Cardinal
Among dusty sparrows
Foraging in brittled oak leaves.
Above, crimson radiates
Three matching maples
At the garden’s edge.
Six dark-red mums
Disrupt the regiments of yellow,
Electrify my senses.
I remember these red blazes
In gray February.
They heat my blood.
